There is nothing like starting young. Webber Surfboards founder Greg Webber was a mere 10 years old when he shaped his first board. Just three years later, Greg had started Webber Surfboards, designing and shaping boards in the family backyard in Australia with his brother John. During the early Eighties, Greg founded Insight Surfboards and made boards for top pro surfers such as Richard Cram, Shaun Thomson, Sunny Garcia and Joe Engel.
The mid-Nineties saw Greg re-found Webber Surfboards and it was not too long before the company relocated back to Sydney. Sponsoring Taj Burrow, Webber also made boards for the likes of Josh Kerr, Andy Irons and Chris Ward. After years of shaping top class boards, Greg Webber is now regarded as one the best shapers on the planet.
Webber boards are renowned for their excellent shapes and the advanced techniques which are utilised in the manufacturing process. The design focus is very much on speed and rail to rail performance. Boards within the Webber range include the Double Diamond, the Webber Mistress, the Gutter Lover and Sonic.
The Double Diamond is a small wave board which features good paddling ability. Also suited to smaller waves, the Gutter Lover features a tri/quad option which allows you to tune it to the local surf conditions. The Sonic has been described by Greg Webber himself as a 'real pocket rocket'. With a slightly fatter deck and a more pronounced concave, it is possible to get extra lift while still maintaining that all-important stability.
After more than 40 years in the business, Greg Webber knows a thing or two about shaping surfboards. Even after all this time, the passion for surfing remains and is there for all to see in the continued high-quality product available from Webber today.
