Designing surfboards since he was 16, Rusty Preisendorfer is the man behind Rusty Surfboards. Originally shaping boards for other famous brands such as Gordon and Smith and Canyon, Rusty began his own label in 1975 and has never looked back. In 2008, he was crowned Shaper of the Year by leading industry publication Surfing Magazine.
While the company's roots lie in California, Rusty Surfboards are sold all over the world including Europe, Australia, Japan and South America. Throughout their history, Rusty-designed boards have been ridden by a multitude of world champions. The huge Rusty team of riders today includes such names as Willian Cardoso, Josh Kerr and Holly Beck.
The wide range of Rusty surfboards includes superb performance boards such as the Rusty Predator, alternative boards and also speciality boards such as the El Dorado. The Predator is one of the most popular shortboards in the Rusty portfolio and is highly responsive. It is ideal for aggressive surfing with extra buoyancy and is probably better suited for a more advanced level of rider. One of the more interestingly named shortboards produced by Rusty is the Neil Diamond. This performance shortboard has a wider nose and added volume to make paddling easier.
For beginners or intermediate surfers, the longboard range from Rusty is ideal. The Mini Tanker features a user-friendly design perfect for rookie riders. As it is a slightly shorter version of a longboard, it is better suited to surfers of a lighter body weight. As its name would suggest, the Utility longboard is an all-round performer and is suited to both beginners and intermediate level surfers.
Other popular boards within the Rusty range include the Blackbird, the Yard Dog, the Grim Ripper, the Rooster and the Slayer, which was used by team rider Josh Kerr during the 2013 season.
