It is almost too perfect a surfing cliche really. Before founding Circle One in 1969, Jeff Townsley travelled throughout much of continental Europe in a battered old VW campervan. Igniting a passion for riding the waves, Jeff’s campervan journeys inspired him to begin creating the gear which would take his surfing prowess to the next level.
Back in his home town of Exeter in the coastal county of Devon, Jeff founded Circle One by initially creatingboards whose designs were influenced by the contents of US surfing magazines. Right from the beginning, Jeff was constantly striving to improve production processes and refine board designs.
Even now, after more than forty years in the business, Circle One continues to innovate and evolve. One thing remains constant however. All of the boards produced by Circle One are hand shaped and hand finished, many of them under the experienced and still enthusiastic eye of Jeff Townsley himself. His enthusiasm for the sport he loves has not diminished with time.
The templates for all of the boards in the Circle One range are produced by Jeff himself. He is ably backed by a team of surfing experts and, more importantly, enthusiasts. Indeed, it is this vibrant enthusiasm from all involved which makes Circle One what it is, a surf company which holds the interest of surfers worldwide uppermost in its thoughts.
The Circle One ranges include the Funky Pig, Bamboo, Southern Swells and the latest addition, the Lazy Hog. This latter model has been specifically developed for stability and extra float, while keeping overall performance at the maximum level. The Lazy Hog range is also ideal for slightly heavier riders. Each range from Circle One contains boards which are suitable for all levels of surfer, whether you fancy being a Hog, a Pig or just a bit of a Swell.
